'M502' - 25th Feb 1971 - Grosser Saal Musik Halle, Hamburg, Germany

Sound Quality: A+
Performance: B
Overall: 4/5 Storage

I have been have a run of good luck with the quality of these bootlegs and this one continues that run with an excellent sounding ROIO. There is a little bit of static for a second or two on 'Green In The Color' but other than that it is perfect.

The performance is good too, not as good as some I have heard but good versions of all the songs played. The Storage aspect comes down to personal taste as to sticking around in my iTunes, I guess with all these good sounding ROIO's I can afford to be pickier than I thought I would get to be and there are other bootlegs with these songs on it that I prefer.

Highlights...

Careful With That Axe Eugene: This is a great version super high intensity version, especially the screams, great job and a contender if I would make a compilation.

Cymbaline: Good version of this but the main thing this track brought me was an explanation to what was going on in the 'Since We Were Teenagers' ROIO that a reviewed a short while ago. The break in the middle is for a few minutes of sound effects that were played during the song live using the famed Azimuth Coordinator. (for you those who have never heard of this piece of equipment it allows the band to control the music levels all round the room with the aid of a joystick type device, so the
footsteps, for example, would move around the auditorium) The original piece was written as part of The Main, The Journey' and was entitled 'Nightmare' so these sound effects are supposed to help set the mood. On the other ROIO this was either very feint or the not routed through the soundboard (I believe that was a soundboard recording). Thanks to wiki on that one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymbaline

Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun: Good version here but the volume on the vocals is a little on the low side

Atom Heart Mother: Includes the orchestrations which I dislike (as stated in a previous review) but this is a faithful recreation of the album version if you like that one.

This is a real shame the quality is excellent but the performance is lacking for me. If you come across this one and you don’t have a lot of other choices then pick it up but in my opinion, even though the 'Cymbaline' sound effects are missing, the 'Since We Were Teenagers' bootleg is a better performance with almost as good sound quality.
